Because March 6, 2015 is Lymphedema Awareness Day, it was fitting for us to choose to raise funds for an organization such as LE&RN.”
The lymphatic system is vital to the health of every individual and unraveling the mysteries of the lymphatic system is critical to understanding many other disease processes. As an integral part of the immune system, the lymphatic system is the body’s surveillance against cancer, and it can provide pathways for cancer to metastasize. It plays a role in inflammatory and auto-immune disorders such as arthritis and systemic lupus, and is key to understanding the spread of AIDS and many infections. According to the World Health Organization, lymphedema affects 250 million people worldwide.
