Have you felt a heavy sensation or aching discomfort in your limbs? Perhaps you have noticed swelling, or your legs or arms feel tired? These are all early signs of edema.

Edema is best described as...

…pronounced swelling, often of the extremities. This swelling is actually an accumulation of excess fluid in the body tissues.

What causes edema?

Edema can be caused by:

  • Venous insufficiency causing blood flow to slow and blood to “pool” or fail to return to the heart;
  • Surgical procedures;
  • Injury to an affected area.

The most extreme conditions of edema are known as lymphedema, which is often misdiagnosed.

Dr. Brennan’s statement underscores why early intervention is crucial:

“All chronic peripheral edema is lymphatic overload.

All edema, left unchecked, becomes lymphedema.”

– Dr. Andrea Brennan, OTD, OTR/L, CLT-LANA, CI-CS, WCC

Edema is manageable.

Managing edema before it becomes lymphedema can make an enormous difference in quality of life.

Lympha Press improves lymphatic flow, which should be one of the first considerations for treatment of all peripheral edema. If you’ve never been diagnosed, it’s worth asking your medical professional if your swollen limbs could be helped by Lympha Press therapy.
