Wynnewood, PA – W. Randall Russell, MD, FACS, Medical Director of Lankenau Hospital Wound Healing Center in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania has authored a case study on the topic of lower extremity lymphedema, which has been published by PRESENT e-Learning.
“Appearances can be deceiving,” noted Dr. Russell. “This is often the case with diagnosing the etiology of lower extremity edema.” While heart failure is the common diagnosis, Dr. Russell states that veno-lymphatic disease should always be considered in the differential diagnosis of leg edema. “An inaccurate diagnosis can delay the patient access to advanced technologies, such as intermittent pneumatic compression therapy.”
