Lympha Press Appoints Dr. Karen Herbst as Chief Medical Officer

Published: 1 February, 2022

January 27, 2022 – (Glen Mills, PA) Lympha Press, the global leader in pneumatic compression therapy for treatment of lymphedema and chronic venous disease, has announced the appointment of Dr. Karen Herbst as Chief Medical Officer.

“Dr. Herbst’s vision, leadership, and standard of excellence is well known in the clinical communities we serve,” remarked Eric Ansart, President. “We share the same goal: to provide the best possible care for patients who suffer from lymphedema, lipedema and venous disease. With the appointment of Dr. Herbst, we aim to elevate not only our understanding of these conditions, but also to develop heightened awareness of leading-edge best practices to manage them.”

“In today’s busy world, optimizing the use of at-home intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) therapy is key for patients with lipedema, lymphedema and vein disease,” noted Dr. Herbst. “The science shows us that connective tissue will become increasingly important in the description of all diseases, and IPC has been shown to improve quality of life scores by reducing edema and the discomfort associated with these conditions.”

“Earlier treatment – not waiting until people are suffering and have lost their jobs or their friends and family because they are unable to function as they had previously is my hope for the future,” said Herbst. “Lympha Press embodies this patient-first perspective, which adds to my excitement about working with such a dedicated team of professionals.”

Karen L. Herbst, MD, PhD, graduated from the University of Iowa with a PhD in Cell Physiology and went on to complete a Howard Hughes Fellowship at the University of Utah. She then graduated with a medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago and did her residency and chief residency at the University of Washington. Dr. Herbst completed a combined research and clinical fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Washington and is board-certified in endocrinology.

She has held faculty positions at Martin Luther King Drew Medical Center/UCLA, the VA San Diego Health Care System/UCSD, and the University of Arizona. She won the Lifetime Achievement Award from Tucson Business in 2019 and was named one of America’s top physicians. Since 2000, her work has focused on those with fat (connective tissue) disease. In 2019, Dr. Herbst headed up a NIH-sponsored conference to establish the standard of care for lipedema and in 2020 she presented new ICD-10 codes for lipedema and Dercum’s disease to the CDC.

For over 40 years, Lympha Press has developed advanced pneumatic compression therapy systems to treat circulatory conditions worldwide. The vision to make life better for people with lymphedema, venous disease, and lipedema took a significant leap forward with the acquisition of Lympha Press’ largest US dealer in 2021, Medical Solutions Supplier (MSS).

MSS is an award-winning durable medical equipment company and flagship member of the Lympha Press Associate Network. Founded nearly 30 years ago, MSS’ track record of success providing optimal service to patients and healthcare providers set a standard of excellence in the regions it served.

“The vast research, development, and innovation poured into the Lympha Press product line combined with a seasoned team of sales, service, and authorization experts position Lympha Press to make more lives better than ever before,” remarked Joe Carberry, Chief Executive Officer.

Lympha Press operations are based in Glen Mills, PA. Through this new direct representation as well as agreements with a dedicated DME partner network, Lympha Press can service the continental US as well as Hawaii and Alaska. Its primarily remote workforce is comprised of team members located throughout the country.
